May 30th, 2013

oceanside beaches pier A Guide to Fun Things to Do in North County San Diego

North County San Diego is an intriguing area with lots of natural beauty including miles of stunning coastline, rolling hills and coastal lagoons. The locals in this region spend their free time enjoying typical activities in San Diego like surfing, kayaking, swimming, laying on the beach and hiking the local trails during the day and enjoying live music, beachfront dining and local bars at night. It’s a bustling area with a fun mix of young people, families and San Diego natives that make North County a popular destination for San Diego visitors any time of year.

From Del Mar to Oceanside, North County is full of big attractions and San Diego activities to take advantage of. It can be a little overwhelming for first time visitors who want to make the most of their stay, so here are some suggestions from a native for fun things to do and do not miss attractions in San Diego’s North County.

  • Hit the Beach: It wouldn’t be a complete San Diego vacation without some major beach time and North County is home to some of San Diego’s nicest beaches. For visitors looking to join the crowds and spend a day on a big white sand beach, Moonlight Beach in Encinitas is perfect. It’s an expansive beach with bathroom facilities, a lifeguard station, playground and plenty of parking, making it easily accessible for a full beach day with the family in San Diego. For visitors traveling with their four-legged companions, Del Mar Dog Beach is ideal. This beautiful beach bordering the San Dieguito river mouth is an off-leash dog beach except during summer when leashes are required June 15th through Labor Day. Visiting pooches will love meeting new friends and playing in the waves at this beautiful dog friendly San Diego beach.
  • Try a New Outdoor Activity: San Diego locals are known for being active and it’s no surprise why. With gorgeous topography and landscape, visitors in San Diego’s North County will want to be outside every day of their vacation, and the best way to make the most of it is by trying a new outdoor San Diego activity. The most popular thing to do in San Diego’s North County is surf, so take advantage of the many surf companies offering lessons and board rentals throughout North County. This area is also a great place to rent a kayak and check out the Carlsbad Lagoon, play a round of golf at the world class Torrey Pines Golf Course or try your hand at sand volleyball at one of the many beaches.
  • Check-out Local Attractions: North County is home to two big-name, heavy-hitter San Diego attractions: LEGOLAND California and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Both are great for families and LEGOLAND caters specifically to young kids. The Safari Park is an interesting take on the typical zoo experience with the Africa Tram where guest can view wild animals living together in a large environment. North County San Diego is also home to some smaller attractions like The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch® and stunning Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve where visitors can hike through rare Torrey Pines trees on the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean with stunning views of La Jolla and Del Mar.

There is no better place to enjoy a family-friendly vacation in San Diego than North County. Visitors can spend all day outside enjoying all San Diego has to offer and then top off the day with a relaxing evening enjoying all the comforts of home with their Beach Front Only vacation rental in North County San Diego.
