With so much to discover and so much scenery in San Diego, what better way to see and experience it all than on a bicycle?  Here are some suggested bike routes, something for the amateur and the pro, the beach cruiser and the road bike. Each route has a map linked to it, compliments of bikely.com, with step by step start to finish directions.

Oceanside to San Diego

• 45.4 miles
• Discover the entire San Diego coast along the famous 101.  Ride through Carlsbad, Encinitas, Del Mar,  beautiful Torrey Pines, La Jolla Mission Bay, all the way to the San Diego Bay. This route is a must for San Diego first-timers!  If you can’t make it all the way to downtown, make any other one of the in between towns your destination.  Oceanside to Del Mar is a beautiful and perfect ride in my book for the more recreational rider.

From S. Pacific St. to San Luis Rey

• 7.2 miles
• Easy recovery ride, bike trail entire way, no car traffic

The North County Loop (1)

• 44.4 miles
• Ride river trails, back roads, and busy streets, this route has it all.  Start in Oceanside, head east toward Escondido, the cut back west through San Marcos and Carlsbad, ending at the coast, and back in Oceanside.

The North County Loop (2)

• 81.4 miles
• For a longer, more thorough, “north county” experience, this route will take you all along coastal north county, Oceanside to Solana Beach, through Rancho Santa Fe, Escondido, and even as far out as Bonsall.  Rural and scenic throughout entire route.

• 40.4 miles
• A gorgeous ride all the way along the Pacific Coast.

Encinitas to Mt. Soledad (Can start in Oceanside as well)

• 46.6 miles
• Discover the beautiful coast and the break away and enjoy the breathtaking views atop Mt. Soledad.
