Celebrating it’s 25th year, the San Diego Street Scene is set to take place Auguset 28th and 29th, 2009, in its original location; Downtown San Diego. Street Scene started in San Diego back in 1984, occupying just one block of downtown, in the Gaslamp District. In 2004, the event outgrew the Gaslamp District of Downtown and was moved next to Petco Park, around East Village. Street Scene kept growing, and had to be moved again, to Qualcomm Stadium. The move to Qualcomm hurt Street Scene, as its appeal of taking place Downtown, in an urban environment, was gone, and it was merely another music festival, with really no distinguishing factor. This year, it has returned to downtown, and the lineup is nothing short of hip and fresh, with something for everyone.
Friday, August 28th features Black Eyed Peas, Modest Mouse, Cake, Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band, Band of Horses, Girl Talk, and a couple dozen more artists. Saturday, August 29th has M.I.A. and Thievery Corporation headlining, along with The Dead Weather, Silversun Pickups, Of Montreal, The Faint, Public Enemies, and many many many more. Parking will be easy because it is adjacent to Petco Park. This year, it is all ages (years past there has always been a 21+ day), so bring the kids!
One day passes are $65, and a two day pass is $122. Buy tickets here.
